Abstract

In a year when the United Nations celebrated its 75th anniversary, the whole world was struck by a pandemic caused by the COVID-19 disease. Having in mind the importance of this organization, and, specifically, the Security Council as one of its main bodies, this is a good opportunity to reflect on its work. The international community was surprised that it had to wait until the summer of 2020 to hear from this body. Resolution 2532 was adopted on July 1st, 2020 and, up to this day, it is the only resolution the Security Council devoted to COVID-19. This paper aims to analyse the weaknesses of the Security Council with regard to the UN combat in this time of crisis. To achieve that goal, the author researched the Resolution and its impact, given that the focal point of the Resolution was to stop conflicts around the world. The results demonstrate that perhaps the time has come for the long-awaited reforms.
