Abstract
The inefficiency and incompatibility of the United Nations General Assembly in contemporary international relations has led to an increased number of demands for its reform. Although there is a general consensus that the reform must be carried out, there is no political will to implement the reform requirements. The great ideological differences, as well as the interests of great powers, represent an aggravating circumstance in this respect. Under new conditions, however, the idea that the fulfilment of the goals of the United Nations can be fulfilled through the synchronized action of other important political factors other than the states has matured. Since the correction of political mistakes from the past is no longer possible, the predominant part of the international community has been put into the function of improving the organizational and functional capacities of the main bodies of the world organization. The following study is largely confined to issues related to the place and role of the General Assembly in the United Nations system and its aspirations to reform it and align it with the needs of contemporary international relations.
