Abstract

The question of regulating the position of national minorities is an important place in relations between Serbia and its neighbors. This question often burden cooperation in other areas and countries in the region are interested in improving the position of national minorities. Another reason is the stability of the region which determines its further integration into the European Union. Serbian Constitution guarantees all civil rights to national minorities. Serbia insists that the same rights are guaranteed to members of the Serbian minority in neighboring countries. In Romania, the Serbian community, unlike Bulgaria, is very numerous, but Serbia is equally interested in preserving the identity of Serbian minorities in these two countries. In the relations between Serbia and the two former Yugoslav republics, Slovenia and Croatia, the question of minorities, because of the war past, is often imposed as an obstacle to resolving individual issues. Today, this question have key importance in maintaining stable relations. In all these countries, Serbia supports the work of different organizations whose goal is to preserve the identity of Serbian minority. Also, there is regular contact between the competent institutions of the Republic of Serbia and neighboring countries in order to improve the lives of minority communities in our country. This creates the preconditions of stable relations and further cooperation in the region.
